NOWATA, Okla. (AP) – Authorities say two young Oklahoma sisters were killed when their mother’s SUV was struck by an oncoming Union Pacific train.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the collision happened Monday afternoon at a railroad crossing 4 miles south of Nowata. A preliminary report says 28-year-old Natalie Benham failed to yield at the crossing and was struck by the train.
Her daughters, 9-year-old Hailey and 6-year-old Hannah, were killed in the collision. The highway patrol says Natalie Benham was taken to a Tulsa hospital where she is in stable condition.
The conductor and engineer in the train weren’t injured.
