OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — A 72-page Oklahoma State Department of Health inspection report into the Oklahoma County Detention Center shows deficiencies like missed sight checks, inmates sleeping on floors, and a rodent infestation.
The inspection report, dated December 11, 2024, comes months after the Jail refused to allow OSDH inspectors into the facility for surprise inspections due to a lack of staff.
Despite facility upgrades and new leadership, the Oklahoma County Detention Center has failed many surprise inspections over the last few years.
Health inspectors visited the jail between December 6 and 11, and their most recent inspection report noted a slew of issues.
OSDH inspectors found several instances of missing sight checks. Several housing pods are required to have hourly sight checks. In one housing pod logbook, 132 hourly sight checks were not performed between December 3rd and December 7th.
The OSDH report also noted sight checks were missed for inmates on suicide watch.
