OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – An Oklahoma death row inmate scheduled to die next month is asking the state Pardon and Parole Board for clemency.

A hearing is scheduled before the board Friday for 48-year-old Johnny Dale Black.

Black was convicted of first-degree murder by a Stephens County jury of the Jan. 4, 1998, stabbing death of 54-year-old horse trainer Bill Pogue of Ringling. Pogue suffered 10 stab wounds, broken ribs and two punctured lungs in a roadside attack.

Black is to be executed on Dec. 17. He is asking that his death sentence be commuted to life in prison without parole.

Last week, the board denied clemency for 53-year-old Ronald Clnton Lott, who is scheduled to be executed on Dec. 10 for the murders of two elderly women more than 26 years ago.
