Officers preparing for Labor Day safety campaign

Ponca City Now - August 4, 2016 10:12 am

Ponca City Police Officers are making preparations and plans for the upcoming National Highway Traffic Safety Campaign “2016 Labor Day ENDUI (Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over) National Mobilization”.

This campaign, funded through a competitive grant award program by the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office, allows overtime to put extra officers on the streets for traffic enforcement. The Ponca City Police Department has received funding for several years and participated in enforcement efforts to arrest drunk, drugged and aggressive drivers.

Patrol Division Captain Watkins oversees the grant process and scheduling of officers to enforce traffic laws to keep the streets safer.

The only sure way to prevent a DUI arrest and the many other costs, monetary and otherwise, is to make sure the correct choice is made: Never drive if you have been drinking.

  • Plan transportation before you go anywhere that alcohol will be served.

  • Take turns with friends to be the designated non-drinking driver.

  • Keep cab or sober transportation telephone numbers readily available,

  • Stay overnight where the event is hosted if you’ve been drinking and don’t have a safe ride home.
