Sherry Gayle Muchmore

March 8, 1946 - April 8, 2025

Sherry Gayle Muchmore, 79, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, died peacefully at home on April 8, 2025, surrounded by her devoted husband and loving family. She was born on March 8, 1946, in Winnfield, Louisiana.

She is preceded in death by her parents Tom and Gayle Fausett of Oklahoma City.

Sherry is survived by her husband, Tom Muchmore, and her beloved children: Blaine Lewis and his wife Trina Lewis; Laura McClatchey and her husband Brandon McClatchey; Pat Muchmore and his wife Jenny Martin; and Shannon Muchmore and her husband Jai Tatum and her sister Tina Fausett of Oklahoma City.

She was a cherished grandmother to Ben Lewis and his wife Courtney; Sydney Borlabi; Alexandria Lyall and her husband Alexander; Taylor Myers and her husband Garrett; Chase Lewis and his wife Jade; Gabrielle Borlabi; Tyler Tisdale and his wife Audrey; Mason Lewis; Teagan Tisdale; and Grayson McClatchey. She was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren: Sutter, Presley, Ellie, Lincoln, Cleo, Dawson, Elijah, Boston, Bowen, and Callum.

Sherry lived a full and passionate life. She held many leadership roles in her community, including serving on the board of directors for the Oklahoma Historical Society. She was also the past president of the Ponca City Council Garden Clubs and the Four O’Clock Garden Club, and past president of the Ponca City Herb Festival. She was also a former president of the Pioneer Woman Museum Board of Directors and the Marland Estate Commission.

Sherry was devoted to family. For more than 20 years, she shared her love for cooking through her column, The Neighborhood Chef, in The Ponca City News. Her passion for gardening and cooking was passed on to many of her children, and she was known for her warmth in the kitchen and her green thumb. Sherry was also an avid bridge player who rarely missed a week at the card table.

Professionally, Sherry served as office manager of the law office of former Oklahoma Attorney General Larry Derryberry and as assistant to the executive secretary of the Oklahoma Press Association, Ben Blackstock.

Above all, Sherry will be remembered for her grace, generosity, and unwavering love for her family. Her presence brought comfort and joy to everyone she met, and her legacy will live on in the lives of those she touched.
