Roger Don Blubaugh, 80, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 26, 2025. After a long battle with Alzheimer’s, he passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK, 74601.
Roger was born on March 20, 1945, to Marvin and Theda Blubaugh in Ponca City, where he spent his life and raised his family. He graduated from Ponca City High School in May 1963, and furthered his education at Northern Oklahoma College. Roger served his country honorably in the Army National Guard from 1964 to 1970.
On August 28, 1965, Roger married Terry Jo Van Meter, the daughter of Fred and Geneva Van Meter. Roger and Terry’s marriage of 59 years was a testament to their unwavering love and commitment to each other, which remained strong until his passing.
In their early years, Roger was a farmer and also helped his dad operate multiple oil wells in Kay County. He owned and operated Hy-Roll Manufacturing, and he received a patent for his hydraulic fence roller and telephone wire roller. In 1988, he became a West Plant Refinery Operator at Conoco where he eventually became Lead Operator. Roger retired in 2012, and enjoyed the retired life by playing golf, traveling, and attending OU football games.
Roger loved traveling with family and friends, and they spent numerous summers camping at the lake with Roger teaching many how to water ski. He also became an avid snow skier and was a sponsor for the Baptist Youth Group ski trips, where he taught many students how to snow ski. Some of his favorite travel experiences include fly fishing in New Mexico and Colorado, deep-sea fishing in Hawaii, cruising the Caribbean, kayaking in San Diego, visiting his cousin Doug Blubaugh’s wrestling camp in Indiana, visiting Yellowstone, and going to the Orange Bowl in 1981, to watch OU beat Florida State. The highlight trip of his life was going to Israel and being baptized in the Jordan River. He enjoyed playing golf with his grandsons, Dex and Max, his brother, Cletus, and friend Floyd Wood.
Roger became a Christian in 1978, and joined First Baptist Church of Tonkawa where he later served as a deacon. His faith in God was evident throughout his life, and he was an active member of First Baptist Church Ponca City. He will be remembered for his love for the Lord, his friends, and especially his family. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren, and he attended many of their activities.
Roger is survived by his wife, Terry Jo Blubaugh; their children, Traci Ratliff (Mark); Darcey Trenary (Justin), grandchildren, Maci, Mitch, Breiden and Max; brother Cletus Blubaugh (Pat); sister Pam Nicholson (Henry); and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Theda Blubaugh and grandson, Dex Trenary.
