September 26, 1959 - March 8, 2025
Robert Fry passed away on March 8, 2025 at the age of 65. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, March 13, 2025 at First United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK, 74601.
Rob was born in Wichita, KS, on September 26, 1959. He graduated from Mulvane High School in 1977, and went on to play football at Butler County Community College. He graduated with a BS in Education from Emporia State University. He worked as a high school teacher and football coach. His first coaching assignment was in Texoma, OK. He married Carla Bauersfeld in 1985 and promised Carla he’d take her places. He kept that promise by coaching in Stilwell, Broken Bow, Canton, Hennessy, Anderson MO, and Ponca City.
They agreed Ponca City was a great place to raise their two children. It was important to Rob to build relationships with his players. He received the coveted honor of All State coach in 1998 and was selected as the Oil Bowl coach in 2012. Rob always had a story about one of the 3 F’s: family, fishing, and football. He’s most known for his Fry-isms such as “God gave you a neck for one reason: to play football. Keep your head on a swivel!”
Rob is survived by Carla Fry, his loving wife of 39 years, and their children Kalie Murray of Oklahoma City, OK (Kirk) and Trent Fry of Denver, CO (Madison). He was proceeded in death by his father John Andrew Fry and mother, Helen Louise Kupka Fry.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ponca City Public Schools, Robert Fry Memorial Scholarship, 613 East Grand Avenue, Ponca City, OK 74601.
