Willa Mae Lyall
February 2, 1934 – December 14, 2017
Willa Mae Lyall was not able to walk much for a number of years, but took one easy step into the arms of her Lord on December 14, 2017.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Terry Ballard and grandson, Ryan Reese officiating the service. Care of the family is under the direction of Trout Funeral Home of Tonkawa.
She was born to Cordes and Golda Chambers on February 2, 1934. She lived her entire life in the Tonkawa area. Willa Mae received her elementary education at Cottage Hill Rural School. She graduated from Tonkawa High School in 1951, and from Northern Oklahoma College in 1953.
She married her best friend on October 25, 1953. This past October, they celebrated 64 years of a happy married life. Willa Mae spent 34 years of her life as a kindergarten teacher in Tonkawa. She never met a child she didn’t immediately love. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Tonkawa, in which she served as Sunday school teacher and faithful choir member. She was well known for the number of friends weddings that she sang at. She was also the lady who coordinated church dinners, funeral meals, weddings and showers with a willing spirit and a quick smile.
She was a great wife, loving mother, proud grandma and an ecstatic great grandma. She will be surely missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of the home, JD “Cotton” Lyall; two daughters, Diana Reese and husband Rod, Dana Edminsten and husband Melton; six grandchildren and their spouses; sixteen beautiful great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Wanna Loo.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the FBC Youth Group, P.O. Box 426, Tonkawa, OK 74653.
