Warner Lee Kizer Jr.

(August 9, 1927 – January 26, 2016)

Warner Lee Kizer Jr., long time Ponca City resident, passed away Tuesday January 26, 2016. He was surrounded by his family as he went to be with his Lord.

Services will be held at First Lutheran Church in Ponca City, Ok on Saturday Jan. 30, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial. Casual Dress

Warner was born in Ponca City, OK to the late Warner Lee Kizer Sr. and the late Florence M. Bailey Kizer Dobbs. He attended Burbank school, Garfield and East Jr. High and Graduated from Ponca City High School in 1945. At 10 years old he was No. 1 paper carrier for Ponca City News. He also worked at Bert and Ben’s gas station. Age 16 ½ he drove for Royal Crown Cola. When he graduated he joined the Merchant Maries at age of 17 ½. He took his training on the Catalina Islands and later assigned to the U.S.S. Western Victory Ship, stationed in the Philippines Islands. He served from 1945-1947, and was honorably discharged.

Upon returning home he went to work for Conoco in the refinery until 1950 when he enlisted into the Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. He was assigned to Panama City, Fl at Tyndall Air Force Base. He married the love of his life, Lila May Vankirk in Waynoka on December 21, 1950. They returned to Tyndall Air Force Base. In Dec. 1951 he was sent to Anchorage, Alaska for a 2 year tour of duty. In Jan. 1954 he was then sent to West Palm Beach, Fl. He then returned to Ponca City where Warner and Lila established their home. From this Union their two daughters Pam and Rhonda was born. During this time he was working at Conoco in the refinery. He later became Electronic Instrument Supervisor, a position he held until his retirement in 1985.

Warner and Lila are members of the First Lutheran Church. Some of Warner’s hobbies were building computer’s, working on cars, taking his girls fishing. He enjoyed going to the sporting games, helping other people and helping with the girl’s school functions. Pam and Rhonda blessed him with 6 grandchildren of which 16 great- grandchildren were born.

He is survived by his loving wife Lila of the home, his children Pam Phillips and husband Rick of Carter, Ok. Rhonda Hurd and husband Danny of Ponca City, Ok. Their 6 Grandchildren Laurie Phillips Simpson and husband Robby of Carter, Ok, Cameron Hurd and wife Amy of Ponca City, Ok, Heidi Daley of Fairfax, Ok, Jennifer Cartwright of Carter, Ok, Jessica Hurd Grimes and husband Danny of Ponca City, Ok, Melissa Phillips Simpson and husband Landon of Carter, Ok. There are 16 Great- Grandchildren: Kelton, Kollen, Kandice, Lawson, Brianna, Ryker, Layton, Brylee, Layson all of Carter, Ok. Caylee, Cayden, Kelby all of Ponca City, Ok, Katelyn, Keenon, Carson and Addyson all of Fairfax, Ok.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, and grandparents: Charles and Alta Kizer, James and Iva Bailey and his step-father Sam Dobbs.

Casket Bearers are David Spears, Clifford Schilling, Dan McGregor, Ryan Burkett, Allen Luebke and Jim Thomas. Honorary Casket Bearers will be his 16 Great- Grandchildren
