Obituary for Wanda Garton

On January 29th 2015, Wanda Callene Garton left this earth for her eternal home. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, and two sons, Vance and Wayne Garton. She leaves behind one daughter, Velma Nephew of Crystal River, Florida; two daughters-in-law, Linda Garton of Ponca City and Carolyn Garton of Florida; 13 Grand Children, 21 Great Grand Children and 4 Great Great Grand Children.
Wanda was born October 19 1925 in Stonewall, Oklahoma, to parents Samuel Harrison Gill and Levy Velma (Davis) Gill. During her Red Rock school days she met George Vance Garton. They were Wed September 15, 1945 at Rantoul Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois. Together they raised three children, Wayne, Vance, and Velma.
Along with spending time with her growing family, Wanda enjoyed camping trips with her husband George and their many friends. She was also passionate about recording genealogy and planning family reunions to stay in contact with distant relatives all over the country. She also was a gifted seamstress and was one of first members of the Sweet Adeline Singing Group in Ponca City.
There will never be another women like Wanda. Her smile, contagious laughter and positive outlook on life could brighten even the darkest day.
On Saturday February 7th, we will lay to rest our precious Wanda. If you would like to join in celebrating this beautiful life, a public service will be held at Community Christian Church, 2109 West Grand, Ponca City, Oklahoma at 1:00 pm.
