June 10, 1937 – June 3, 2017
Vernon ”Gene” Hambleton a resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday June 3, 2017 in Beaver, PA with his loving family by his side. Gene was born on June 10, 1937 to Gerald Kieth Hambleton and Winifred (Biby) Hambleton in Ponca City, OK. He was 79 years old.
Funeral Services for Gene will be held at 11:00 AM Friday the 9th of June 2017, at Grace Memorial Chapel located at 2016 N. 14th Street, Ponca City, OK with Bishop Brian Critchfield officiating. Interment will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery under the care of Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City. Casket bearers will be: Craig Hambleton, Jeff Hicks, Jordan Hambleton, Jake Ramsey, Adam Faul, Kenny Smith and Zack Ramsey. Honorary casket bearers will be Tommy Dobbs, Travis Gillespie, Sean Gillespie and Jeremy Southworth.
Gene graduated from Ponca City High School in 1956. After graduation he attended Brigham Young University. Gene was a veteran having served in the United States Army. He worked as an owner/operator and driver in the trucking industry. Gene married Bonnie Frame on December 30, 1963 and they made their home in Ponca City.
Gene enjoyed fishing and watching old westerns on the television. He was a sports fan and an avid OU fan. He also enjoyed playing cards. . Gene’s daughter tells a heartwarming tell of the sound of her father singing his theme song ”Dangerous Dan from the Rio Grande” throughout their home.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Bonnie (Frame) Hambleton of the home. 2 sons; Brett Hambleton and wife Diane of East Liverpool, Ohio and Dave Hambleton of Georgia, 1 daughter; Kristi Hambleton of Ponca City, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Kieth and Winifred (Biby) Hambleton, one daughter Kelli Ramsey and two brothers Keith and Jerry Hambleton.
He loved his family dearly and was a devoted father and grandfather.
