Obituary for Thelma Padgett

Thelma Louise Padgett of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Thursday morning, January 2, 2014, at her home in Blackwell at the age of 93 years.
Thelma Louise Padgett was born on May 8, 1920, in Braman, Oklahoma, to C. Raymond and Gladys (Vosburgh) Kohler. She grew up in Braman and graduated from Braman High School in 1938. Following her education she married W. D. “Bud” Padgett on September 6, 1938, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, and they settled in Braman where she served her family as a homemaker. In 1940 they moved to a farm in the Prairie Chapel area east of Blackwell. In 1977 she received her associate degree in business from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, and later assisted in GED training at the Blackwell Public Library. Her husband preceded her in death on March 20, 1999, and she later moved into Blackwell to make her home. She was a member of the Ponca Homemakers and the Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir. She enjoyed needlework and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Waldeana Walter of Blackwell and Dr. Karen Davis of Washington D.C.; a son, Keith Padgett of Lakewood, Colorado; a sister, Gwendolyn Wilkey of Jenks, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and 7 great great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Paul Padgett; a brother, Edward Kohler; a grandson, Fred Walter Reeves; and a granddaughter, Kelly Collins.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 4th in the Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sharon Cochran officiating. Burial will be in the Blackwell Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in her honor with the Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
