Susan Audrey (Williams) Freeman

August 26, 1940 ~ December 17, 2020 (age 80)

Susan Audrey Freeman “Toot”, born August 26th 1940 to John Moses Williams and Matilda Hairyback Williams. She had two Ponka names, Thi’ci, which had no translation and Wa’uTon’ga which meant Big Woman. She grew up in the Ponca City area and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1959. Soon after graduation she met Theodore Freeman and on December 9th 1960 they were married in Newkirk, OK. To this marriage came 4 children Theodore Jr., Felecia, Jason and Margaret. With the job that her husband had they moved around quite a bit and made their home in several different states and countries throughout his career. Living in England, Scotland and Norway are a few of the places they lived and met and made many Christian friends along the way. But always calling Ponca City home. She was a proud member of the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma and belonged to the Ponca Indian Baptist church.

She was the second child of six brothers and sisters. Her brothers John Williams Jr., Ceasar Williams, Orlando Williams and sisters Johnna Pokibro and Kay Grant. She was the matriarch of the family who loved each and every family member dearly. When family or friends visited her home, they never left on an empty stomach. You always felt good when you left her house because you had a full belly and the time spent with her was filled with laughter along with encouraging words from the Bible.

They were known as “Ted and Toot” to many people along their Christian walk and had a strong faith in God. Two memories that she would talk about are getting to fly on the Concord from England to New York and having “Ted and Toot” carved into the structure of the Colosseum in Rome Italy.

She loved her grandchildren/nieces/nephews and would always had one of them with her when they were younger “cruising” in her van listening to Michael Jackson. She loved going to church every Sunday, watching her grandchildren play sports, going to pow wows, going to the Ponca Tribal Senior Center playing dominoes and just visiting with friends or relatives. She loved going to church and loved to witness to people letting them know the joy of having Jesus guide her daily walk.

She always told family and friends that she was ready. She knew where she was going and was prepared spiritually and was ready for that day.

She will be missed by many and leaving behind to cherish her memories are her brothers and sisters, Caesar, Orlando, Johnna and Kay. Her son Jason and wife Chandra of Ponca City, daughters Margaret of Ponca City and Felecia of Everett, Washington. Her grandchildren Harrison Freeman (Danielle) of Wichita, Ian Freeman (Lindsay) of Ponca City, Audrey Murphy of Seattle Wa., Gillian Murphy of Everett Wa., Israel Washington (Rebecca) of Stillwater, Kobe Washington of Stillwater, Alexandra Freeman of Winfield Ks., Zoe Freeman of Ponca City and Braden Washington of Ponca City. Great grandchildren Nicole Freeman, Claire Freeman and Olivia Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother John L. Williams, her husband Theodore Freeman, son Theodore Freeman Jr., son in law John Murphy, grandsons Sean Paul Murphy, Joshua Murphy and great grandson Griffin Cruz Freeman.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Grant, Jonathan Warrior, Israel Washington, Kobe Washington, Braden Washington and Tyler Washa. Honorary pallbearers are Harrison Freeman, Ian Freeman, Joshua Murphy, Jeff McCleland and Jace Williams along with all her nephews near and far.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Ponca Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the caring and giving nature to their mom/sister/aunt and grandma.
