Obituary for Sue Corbitt

Our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother went to be with the Lord Saturday, October 5, 2013, resting peacefully in her home. Carolyn “Sue” (Crawford) Corbitt was born December 28, 1935, in Blackwell to Doyice and Creta (Mercer) Crawford. She was raised on a farm West of Blackwell with three sisters. Carolyn started first grade at Lone Tree School riding a horse to school. Later Lone Tree and Cooper School combined. She graduated eighth grade from Cooper School. Carolyn started Blackwell Junior High in ninth grade. At the age of 16, her parents bought a Plymouth Coupe, Carolyn and her sister Shirley did a lot of dragging Main Street. In high school, Carolyn was active in FHA, Y-Teens, the Election Board, production staff and Committee of the Junior Play. She graduated from Blackwell High School in 1954. Carolyn married Jay Corbitt in Blackwell at the United Brethern Church on January 27. 1954. In the 22 years Jay spent in the Marine Corps, Jay and Carolyn lived in various places throughout the United States. However, Blackwell was always her home. In their 59 years of marriage, they were blessed with three children, seven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Carolyn’s primary occupation was being a military wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family was her life. She enjoyed spending time with her family outdoors fishing and camping at the lake. She also liked sewing, crafts and was known for her family dinners. Carolyn was a member of the First Christian Church of Blackwell where she spent many years as a Sunday school teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents Doyice and Creta Crawford, daughter Sherri Grace and granddaughter Kristi Pennington. Carolyn is survived by her husband Jay of the home; son Darrell and wife Becky of Baytown, TX; son Tim and wife Vicki of Ponca City, OK and son-in-law James Grace of Kaw City, OK. Also, six grandchildren including Brandi Doty and her husband Chad of Owasso, OK; Chad Corbitt and his wife Kelly of Philadelphia, PA; Jonny Corbitt and his wife Lacey of Stillwater, OK; Wendy Corbitt and John of Baytown, TX; Lindsey Bowling of Tonkawa, OK and Tyler Corbitt of Ponca City, OK. The 16 great grandchildren include Brayden, Taegin, Ethan, Landon, Malarie, Carter, Taylor, Emma, Kaetyn, Noah, Willa, Zackary, Samuel, Annabel, Vayda and Roman. Carolyn is survived by her three sisters, Shirley Bringham and husband Gary; Colleen Shepherd and husband JoDel and Sharon Sayre as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at the Blackwell Cemetery Friday, October 11, 2013, at 2:00 P.M. Guests are invited to stop by the family home at 501 E Coolidge, Blackwell following the services to visit with family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wheatheart Nutrition Center of Blackwell in care of Roberts and Sons Funeral Home.
