Obituary for Shirley Thomas

Shirley Ann Thomas (Vinson) was born at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City on August 1, 1942, passed away April 30, 2014. She was met in heaven by her parents Ira and Juanita Vinson and brothers Lew & Paul.

Shirley spent her early years in Oklahoma City, when she was in the third grade her family moved to Muskogee, OK. She graduated from Alice Robertson Jr. High and then from Muskogee Central High School in 1960. She attended nursing school in Tulsa for a year, changed majors, and transferred to Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee. On her Thanksgiving break in 1962 she met her future husband, Ron Thomas. Shirley and Ron were married on July 3, 1963 in the Assumption Catholic Church in Muskogee. Ron began working for Continental Oil Co. in Ponca City in July 1964 and Shirley followed in September after the birth of their first child, Gregory Kevin. Shirley had daughter Tamara Anne on May 6, 1966. Shirley began working for Continental in 1967 in the Key Punch department and retired in 1989 as a Key Punch Supervisor.

Shirley enjoyed life, she loved to crochet blankets for all her family members, she was the best mother, best grandmother, a new great-grandmother, and a friend to all. She was blessed with six grandchildren and one great grandchild Boo Radley. She is survived by Ron of the home, son Gregory of Edmond, OK, married to Nina and have daughter Taylor Nicole & son Andrew Dax. Taylor is located in Oklahoma City, OK and is married to Nick Ley and have son Radley Paul. Daughter Tami of Guthrie, OK, married to Kent Wilson and have daughter Emma Mae, son Brent Thomas, daughter Annie Kate, and son Eli Graham. Shirley loved them with all her heart and when her favorite holiday came around – Christmas – she always spoiled them.

A Wake Service will be held Sunday, May 4, 2014, 6:00 pm at Trout Funeral Home, 505 W. Grand, Ponca City, OK. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, May 5, 2014, 10:00 am, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 707 E. Ponca, Ponca City, OK, with internment at 3:30 pm, Memory Lane Cemetery, Anadarko, OK.

Casketbearers: Kent Wilson, Brent Wilson, Mark Kaulaity, Chris Bozeman, Nick Ley, and Clint Martens.

Honorary Casketbearers: Dax Thomas, Eli Wilson, Dave Wasson, Jim Buster and David Hunt.
