Sharla Faye Brown

(January 30, 1935 – August 8, 2017)

Sharla Faye Brown of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Tuesday morning, August 8, 2017, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 82 years.

Sharla Faye Brown was born on January 30, 1935, in Billings, Oklahoma, to William H. and Grace L. (Newport) Clemens. She grew up in Three Sands and attended Three Sands Schools before graduating from Tonkawa High School in 1951. She then furthered her education on an art scholarship to Phillips University in Enid. She married Joseph J. Brown Jr. on June 7, 1953, in Tonkawa and they settled in Blackwell where she served her family as a homemaker. Her husband preceded her in death on January 29, 2007, and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed painting ceramics, playing golf and cheering for the Oklahoma Sooners.

She is survived by a daughter, Monica Gearhard of Blackwell; a son, Greg Brown on Blackwell; two sisters, Maudene Collyar of Ponca City and Joan Ewell of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by four sons, Bruce, Steve, Bart and Bret Brown; her parents; two brothers, Robert and Don Prelesnick; and three sisters, Mildred Coty, Rosie Prelesnick and Billie Rogers.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 11th in the Blackwell Cemetery with James W. Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her honor with the Central Oklahoma Humane Society in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
