July 17, 1936 – October 18, 2018
Sam Fite, resident of Ponca City, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at his home. He was 82 years old. A graveside ceremony for Sam will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Sam was born on July 17, 1936 in Cedar Vale, Kansas to his parents, Ewing and Pansy (Patteson) Fite. He grew up and graduated high school and Jr. college in Independence, Kansas. After college, Sam joined the United States Army Reserves and served from 1956 to 1962. He married Donna Joyce Koch on May 17, 1985 in Enid, Oklahoma. Sam worked as a sales manager at Montgomery Ward, and as an accountant for Conoco, retiring after 25 years.
Sam loved sailing and being on the water. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, and riding motorcycles. Sam and Joyce loved to travel. They shared fond memories of exploring Antigua and Grenada on a sailboat, traveling in their RV, and touring the country on his motorcycle. One of Sam’s favorite adventures was hiking and camping in the Rocky Mountains.
Sam leaves behind his wife, Joyce Fite of Ponca City, son, Kirk Fite, and wife Sharon of Wagoner, OK, son, Eric Fite , and wife Moira of Cleveland, OK, son, David Koch of Lakeside, CA, daughter, Lori Anderson of Ponca City, brother, Larry Fite of Pittsburg, KS, sister, Linda Higgins of Sugar Land, TX, as well as ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Jean Fite.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sam’s honor to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
