August 3, 1929 – May 18, 2018
Ruth Irene Dye, lifelong resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma passed away Friday, May 18, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. She passed peacefully surrounded by family. She was 88.
A graveside ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Round Grove Cemetery west of Ponca City. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Ruth was born on August 3, 1929 in Blackwell to Walter “Shorty” and Katie (Snyder) Emerick, the youngest of three children.
She married Dwain “Woody” Dye September 9, 1945 in Yuma, AZ. He preceded her in death on August 8, 1981.
Ruth owned Ruth’s Cakes and Candies in Ponca City for several years. Her true talent was making beautiful cakes for all occasions. In addition to the bakery, she also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, camping, reading books, watching westerns and sewing. She lived on the family farm until 2013 where she liked to garden and watch her flowers grow. Ruth loved to be surrounded by family. She always had a smile and lived life to the fullest.
She is survived by her four children, Larry Dye and wife Sharon; Dennis Dye and wife Stephanie; Carol Andrews all of Ponca City; Cheryl Wilson and husband Dennis of Marland. Eleven Grandchildren, Darrel Dye, Brian Dye, Amy Stuever, and Rowdy Andrews of Ponca City; Lori Wilcutt of Okarche; Lindsey Westfall of Yukon; Lane Dye of Shidler; Nikki Lee of Bartlesville; Jeremy Dye and Katie Shelton of Owasso; Deidra Wilson of Marland. Ruth also had 27 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Harry “Jack” Emerick and Joe Emerick and one sister in law.
