Obituary for Ruth Cooper

Ruth Christine Cooper formerly of Blackwell died Thursday morning, June 19, 2014, at her home in Ponca City at the age of 91 years.
Ruth Christine Cooper was born on February 7, 1923, in Slick, Oklahoma, to James Clarence and Lillie Berta (Freeman) Butler. She grew up attending Shamrock Public Schools and graduated in 1941. She furthered her education by attending Sapulpa Junior College where she received an associate degree in home economics. She married Shelby Glen Cooper Sr. on May 28, 1942, in Sapulpa and they settled in Keifer before moving to Blackwell where she served her family as a homemaker. She later worked for Kenny Sole at the Otasco Furniture Store before returning to the home. In 1966 she became the manager of the Homer Luther Music Store for two years. She then joined her husband in the operation of Cooper Pipe Supply and they moved the company to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, in 1980. They sold the company and retired in 1983. Her husband preceded her in death in 1984 and she moved to Ponca City in 1989 to make her home. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, various handcrafts, reading and music.
She is survived by two sons, Shelby Cooper and wife Kim of Ponca City and Al Cooper and wife Vivian of Broken Arrow; a daughter-in-law, Linda Cooper of Springfield, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Brian Cooper and Natalie Cooper both of Springfield, Missouri, Shauna Cooper, Justin Cooper, Brandon Cooper all of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Matthew Cooper and wife Ashley of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Christy Bay-Anderson, Glen Cooper, John Cooper and James Cooper all of Ponca City; and several great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, James R. Cooper; a sister, Ruby Eddins; and three brothers, Howard, Luther and Frank Butler.
Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 23rd in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Al Cooper and Rev. Jerry Holt officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Mounds Cemetery in Mounds, Oklahoma.
Casketbearers will be Brian Cooper, Justin Cooper, Brandon Cooper, Glen Cooper, Matthew Cooper, John Cooper and James Cooper.
