Roger was born on March 23, 1949 to the late Rev. W. T. and Tommie (Draper) Dunn in Paris, TX. The family moved to Odessa and Ft. Worth Texas, eventually returning to live most of his life in Paris. He was the oldest of five siblings. Alan and wife Cindy Dunn, Sheila (Dunn) and husband Kelly Lewellen, Kathy (Dunn) and husband Rick Porter and Mike and wife Carrie Dunn of Eufaula, OK. He was loved by his nieces and nephews as well. Melinda and Wade Dunn, Alyssa (Porter) and husband Jeremy Dougan and daughters Addyson and Brooklyn, Jessica (Porter) and husband Brantley Hendrix, Brianna Porter, Rachel Dunn, Tate Dunn, Cameron Dunn and Jillian Dunn.
He attended and graduated from Paris Junior College and continued his education at East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas. In 1969, Roger transferred to OSU in Stillwater, OK. While attending OSU, Roger worked as a janitor at Perry High School for a short time. He then went to work for M&W Grocery Store as an Assistant Manager and after that, he went to work as the principal at Bible Baptist Christian School for two years. He later worked at Ditch Witch in Perry for nineteen years. The best part of Roger’s career was following in his father’s footsteps as Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church for almost 22 years.
The most important date of Roger’s life was the night of June 6, 1961 when he and Alan accepted Jesus Christ into their lives as Lord and Savior. On Oct. 10, 1970, he and Kathy joined their lives together as one. As each child was born into their home, his big heart got bigger and bigger. Then, as each of their 18 grandchildren came into their life, that heart continued to expand.
Roger and Kathy fulfilled a dream in 2009 when they bought the farm near Orlando. They needed lots of room for 4 wheelers, tractors, snow sledding, bonfires and sitting in front of the fire pit singing and visiting.
Traveling was one of the greatest highlights of Roger and Kathy’s later years of married life, especially the Gospel Music Cruises. Roger’s favorite scripture passages were the entire book of Psalms. He loved Southern Gospel Music and he and Kathy would travel to concerts as often as possible.
He is survived by wife Kathy of the home; five children: Kristy and husband Mike Williams of Deer Creek, Capt. Jeremy and wife Stacie Dunn of Ft.
