Robert was born on October 30, 1929 to Millard Guy Thompson and Anna Belle Nichols Thompson in Arvada, CO. As a child they moved to Tonkawa where he graduated from Tonkawa High School with the class of 1947. Following high school he attended Northern Oklahoma College and Oklahoma State University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree. Graduating college brought about much change as within the week of graduation, he received his notice of draft into the U.S. Army as well as marrying his adored wife Patricia on May 28, 1952 at the First United Methodist Church in Tonkawa. The family moved to Enid in the Mid 1950’s where he began working as a Safety Engineer for a petroleum company. Once in Enid, they began attending the Davis Park Christian Church which became the Oakwood Christian Church where he served as a Deacon amongst other positions. As well, Robert was active in the Enid American Legion. Patricia and Robert enjoyed square dancing and spend many nights cutting a rug with friends. They were also fond of taking the camper out across the country to fish and boat with some of their favorite spots being Canton Lake and Rockport, TX. When he wasn’t working or dancing, Robert could be found in his shop working on his woodworking projects. He adored his family and his grandchildren who lovingly called him Grandpa Bob. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
