Robert “Bobby” Niles was born July, 3rd 1942 in Oklahoma City to Pete and Dorothy Niles. He grew up attending Yukon Public Schools, Graduating in 1960.
Following graduation, he attended Southeastern University in Durant, Oklahoma, on a full football scholarship. While at Southeastern, he played fullback for the Savages where he was given the nickname “Bullet Bob” due to his speed and agility. He graduated college in 1964 receiving a Bachelors Degree in Education/Coaching.
Bobby then moved to Blackwell, accepting a position at Blackwell Public Schools where he taught 8th grade science and coached football, basketball and track. He met an amazing girl named Karen Elliott who he married on June, 17th 1967. They made their home in Blackwell where they raised their three daughters.
He was active in the Jaycee organization, where he made many lifelong friends. He enjoyed being a referee for both basketball and football. He also enjoyed coaching his daughters in softball and track.
He continued teaching and coaching for 14 years before becoming a salesman until retirement. He remained a proud supporter of the Maroons, attending every sporting event. He enjoyed announcing the Friday night football games. He was always happy to see his former students and enjoyed attending the homecoming festivities every year.
Bobby was an active member of the First Christian Church where he served as an elder, and taught Sunday school. He served as a volunteer for the youth group; cooking in the snack bar, sponsoring trips and working at the fair booth.
Bobby loved his family more than anything. He was so proud and protective of his daughters. He loved being a Papa and was happiest when there was a ball game, school event, or any activity he could support them in.
He will be deeply missed by his three daughters, Bridget Dollarhide and husband Chad, Heidi Ashford and husband Sam, and Heather Niles; seven grandchildren, Drew and Kyle Dollarhide, Faith, Lydia, Ivy, Emily and Owen Ashford; and a brother, Jimmy Niles and wife Mary Kay.
He was welcomed into heaven by his parents; his brother, Jackie Niles; His wife, Karen; and his precious granddaughter, Hope Alyssa.
Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Monday, July 8th in the First Christian Church in Blackwell with Rev. Jeff Koch officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in his name to the First Christian Youth Group in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
