Rilla was born on August 6, 1931, the daughter of George Everrett and Mabel Louise (Sinderson) Grove in Enid, OK. She was raised in Enid, graduating from Enid High School in 1949. Following high school she attended Oklahoma A&M University. While in college, she worked on the Redskin yearbook staff. A highlight of college life was pledging to the Kappa Delta sorority, the sisterhood with whom she devoted lifelong affiliation and love. During her time at college, she met the love of her life Charles LeRoy Cobb, and they were married January 24, 1952 in Enid. The love and marriage lasted 64 years before his passing in 2016. They lived northeast of Ponca City, farming and raising cattle besides careers. Rilla loved the animals, horse riding, and being outdoors. For many years, they traveled, camped, and played golf together, along with close friends. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle solver, and started quilting and machine embroidering after retiring (1988) from Ponca City High School as the librarian. RWD#3 awarded her with a 50 year plaque as a founding board member which brought reliable water to the community. She was a long time member of the Newkirk First United Methodist Church, participating in UMW until transferring to St. Paul’s United Methodist in 2016.
Rilla was preceded in death by her parents George and Mabel Grove, husband Charles LeRoy Cobb, son Mark Eugene Cobb, grandson Lucas Aaron Cobb, and brother Stephen George Grove.
Survivors include son Everrett LeRoy Cobb and wife Ellen of Ponca City, OK; granddaughter-in-law Christie Cobb of Kansas City, MO; Anthony Clinton Cobb and fiancé Gina Hall of Blemont, MI; Angela Marie Ramsay of NE Belmont, MI; Amanda Marie Mayahi and husband Aziz of Tulsa, OK; Chelsey Renee Cobb of Houston, TX; Jennifer Lee Callaway and husband Jason of Fort Gibson, OK; and 13 great grand children who refer to her fondly as “Gigi.”
