Richard T. “Dick” Jones, Jr. passed away Monday, September 4, 2017, in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He was 90 years old. A funeral ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church in Ponca City with Rev. Robert Montgomery officiating. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2017 at Highland Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas. A family visitation will be held at Trout Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 7-8 p.m.
Dick was born July 15, 1927 in Winfield, Kansas to his parents, Richard Thornton Jones and Margaret Nadine (Boyer) Jones. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1945 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946 in the South Pacific and Okinawa. Later, he returned to Winfield and attended Southwestern College, graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor’s Degree. He married Joan Fennema on May 28, 1950 at the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield. In 1952, they moved to Ponca City, OK where he worked as an accountant in the tax department at Conoco. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ponca City and acted in a number of plays at the Ponca Playhouse. Dick and his wife were drivers and coordinators of the Meals on Wheels program in Ponca City.
Dick retired from Conoco in 1985. After his retirement, he and his wife Joan traveled to all 50 states, all seven continents, and several Pacific Islands.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert M. Jones, and step-mother, Crystal Flavola Jones.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan, his four children, Rosemary and her husband Jim Holt of Tulsa, OK, Margaret and her husband Jerry Noble of Oklahoma City, David Jones of Austin, Texas, and Melody Jones of Tulsa, Oklahoma, grandchildren, James Holt and wife Ann of Tulsa, Emily Walter and husband Robert of Spring, Texas, and Joey Noble of Oklahoma City, five great-grandchildren, Christeline, J.C. and Joanna Holt, and Hannah and Caroline Walter, nieces, Deborah Jones of Pasadena, CA and Robyn Jones of Arcadia, CA, and nephew, Brian Jones and wife, Gwen of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
