Ray Lee Bowling of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Thursday morning, November 1, 2018, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 82 years.
Ray Lee Bowling was born on October 16, 1936, in Blackwell to Marvin C. and Mary Marie (Blair) Bowling. He grew up in Blackwell and attended Blackwell Public Schools. Following his education he entered the United States Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge he married Peggy Hawkins in 1959 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, and they settled in Sapulpa before moving to Blackwell where he worked as a truck driver. He drove for Marvin Allbaugh, Conoco, Arnold Trucking and later for Kahle’s Cotton Gin and Steve Vap during his over fifty year career. He received the two million mile ticket and accident free award. He later married Loretta Banta on October 10, 1988, in Tulsa and they settled in Wetumpka before returning to Blackwell to make their home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by a son, Randy Bowling of Blackwell; step-sons, Monty Anderson and Terry Anderson of Blackwell; step-daughters, Deanna Anderson of Ponca City, Vickie Norwood of Tulsa, and Sandy McMoore of Perry; two sisters, Joanne Stone and husband Karl of Blackwell and Linda Rowen of Salina, Kansas; two grandsons, Jeremy Bowling of Alva and Brandon Bowling of Blackwell; and many step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; a daughter, Connie Pappan; an infant brother; and a step-son, J. R. Anderson.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 7th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with Rev. Lanny Jobe officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in his honor with the Church of Christ Fish Fry in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
