Ranger Scott, age 73, resident of Burbank, OK, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2020 in Ponca City.
A memorial ceremony to celebrate Ranger’s life will be held at a future date to be announced. He will be laid to rest privately at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Ranger was a nickname was given by his Grandpa Scott. Most people did not know his given name.
He was the third of seven children born to Emil Scott and Virginia (Milligan) Scott on October 6, 1946 in South Haven, KS. Ranger and Josie met at a VFW dance in Arkansas City, KS. They were married on Friday, January 13, 1967. He said Friday the 13th was lucky for him. They had just celebrated 53 years together. After Jr. College, he worked in Wichita for a short time before being drafted into the Army in May 1967. After training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and Ft. Polk, LA, he was sent to Vietnam in October 1967 for 1 year. He proudly served his country in Vietnam and later suffered many health problems caused by exposure to Agent Orange. After his honorable discharge, Ranger returned to the Ark City area and in July 1969, moved to Burbank, OK where he worked for C&J Cattle Company for 16 years. He then worked for 28 years for Arrowhead Ranch and Elman Fuchs. He and Elman developed a great friendship over the years and they loved and respected each other. Ranger also served as chairman of the Braden Rural Water District #3 for over 25 years. Ranger enjoyed watching steer roping and John Wayne movies on the western channel. His favorite sport was coyote hunting with his greyhounds. Ranger was well known in Osage County as an outstanding ranch hand and was proud of this. Anyone who knew Ranger, knew how much he loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Josie, son Chris, mother Virginia and three grandchildren Dustin, Colton, and Caitlin Scott. They were expecting their first great granddaughter in September. Additional survivors include sister, Donna Geier of Augusta, KS and brothers, Virgil (Linda) Scott of Grove, OK, Larry (Christy) Scott of Wellington, KS, and Lester (Deb) Scott of Florida and Brad (Kathie) Scott of South Haven, KS, and his puppy, “Miss Emma.” Ranger was preceded in death by his father (Emil) and stepfather (Earl Richards) and sister (Ann Gressel).
