Patricia A. Stieber
October 6, 1935 – November 1, 2017
Patricia A. (Pat) Long Stieber, age 82 long time Ponca City resident passed away November 1, 2017 surrounded by her family.
Pat was born October 6, 1935 in Oklahoma City to George V. Long and Edna Hawley Long. Pat’s mother passed away when she was eleven years old and her father was a double amputee veteran of World War I. Ruby, Pat’s younger sister, came with her to Ponca City in August of 1949 to live at the American Legion Children’s Home. At that time, the home was run and funded entirely by the American Legion Post and was only for children of veterans who could not take care of them. Pat attended Ponca City High School and while in high school married Billy Leon Stieber on October 14, 1951. Their first son Bobby Jack was born on July 20, 1954 in El Paso, Texas while Bill was serving in the U. S. Army. After Bill’s discharge they returned to Ponca City. Their next son Michael Batt Stieber was born on July 12, 1957. Their third son Bruce Alan Stieber was born on August 8, 1959 and only daughter Sharon Kay was born on April 20, 1962. Pat and Bill divorced in 1982.
Pat held many jobs including working at Humpty Dumpty Supermarket, Ponca City News, and the Liberty Elementary School lunchroom. She was also an Avon salesperson and owner of Readmor Bookstore from 1977 to 1990. She worked at Spray’s Jewelry store from 1990 to 2005. She worked at Plaza Wine and Spirits from 2005 until she was no longer able. After her four kids and daughter-in-law, Gala, took up golf, Pat began playing golf at the age 61 and loved it. She especially loved playing with her kids. Pat and her mother-in-law Hazel Stieber had a close and loving relationship. Pat and her daughter Sharon had breakfast with Hazel most Saturday mornings in the last few years before Hazel passed away. Pat always felt she was lucky to have her four kids and a good family. Pat was very proud of her family.
Pat is preceded in death by both of her parents and her brother Robert Long, her sister Ruby Stripling and nephew Jay. As well as her in-laws W. R., Hazel Stieber and her sister-in-law Peggy Krenn. Pat’s heart was crushed when her oldest son Bobby Jack Stieber passed away September 3, 2012.
