Nolan Watson

(July 16, 1923 – November 11, 2016)

Nolan Murial Watson, resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma passed away Friday, November 11, 2016 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Graveside Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday November 17, 2016 at Resthaven Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home. Nolan Murial Watson was born July 16,1923 in Rice, TX to Harold O. Watson and Olivia Potter Watson. He left home at an early age to do various forms of construction as well as farm work. He was part of the WPA construction project. He also continued to build things all his life. He never talked about his past but occasionally he would talk about his experiences in the Navy which he served in from 1944-1946. Then, he married Lavena Brooks Watson on March 12,1946 in Arkansas. They had two children Linda G. Blackard and Larry N. Watson. The family when on to include four grandchildren: Shawn L. Harkins, Dawn W. Cross , Brandon K. Watson and Branda D Watson-White. Also, he has five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. After returning home from the service, he started working for Ivan King doing concrete finishing. Over the years, that business passed thru many hands including: Larry Chitwood and finally into Sober Brothers which Nolan retired from at the age of 87. He always loved working in his garden where he grew tomatoes, jalapeno peppers and squash. When he got home from work, he would always tend to his garden and mow the yard as needed, from concrete to soil. He always has been known as “Poppy” and he was a Poppy to everyone.
