Obituary for Neal Long

Neal R. Long, 90, of Ponca City, passed away Thursday December 4, 2014 at Ponca City Medical Center.

Neal was born on August 19, 1924 in Kaw City to Christopher Columbus and Olive Alma (Anderson) Long. He grew up on a farm near Newkirk, OK. He and Ivonya Mae Spurgeon were married on June 18, 1949 in Newkirk. Ivonya passed away on July 2, 1991. Neal was also preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Ralph & Kenneth, 1 sister Josephine and 1 grandson Shawn Ray Hazen.

Neal was a WWII Veteran of the US Army serving with the 82nd Airborne Division. He had worked for Conoco Oil Company as a supervisor at the Ponca City Refinery, retiring after 45 years of service.

Neal is survived by his daughter-Lydia Backhaus and son-Bennie Long both of Ponca City. Grandchildren; Shawndra Hazen, Mike Backhaus and his wife Crystal, Chelsea Jackson and her husband Chris. Great grandchildren; Kylie Heron, Devon Backhaus, Kylie Hock & Parker Jackson. Sister-in-law Linda Van, Brother-in-law Don Crawford and his wife-Vickie. Several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
