Nan Fry

October 11, 1951 – April 14, 2020

Nan Paris Fry of Blackwell, OK died at her home Tuesday, April 14, 2020.

Born Oct. 11, 1951 in Ponca City, OK, she was the middle daughter of Glenn E. (Jack) and Rosemary Buetow Paris. She attended schools in Ponca City; graduating from Ponca City High School in 1969. She went on to Christian College in Columbia, MO and then to Oklahoma State University where she was named a Top Ten student for the College of Education. While at OSU, she was also a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority, Mortar Board, and President of Panhellenic Council. She graduated from OSU in 1973 with a degree in education.

On a blind date planned by her sister, Nan met Steve Fry of Blackwell, OK. He swept her off her feet — as she did his — and they were married Dec. 30, 1972 at the First Presbyterian Church in Ponca City. After a brief time in Houston, TX the couple moved to Blackwell where Nan taught at Huston Elementary. Not long after, she was hired by Dale Klingensmith and Joe Berry Cannon to work at First National Bank. She worked there for 33 years. Steve and Nan raised 2 sons together, Jake and Brett. They were the joys of her life. She spent the last part of her career at the Kay County Clerk’s office with Tammy Reese and enjoyed her work before retiring in 2018.

Since retiring, Nan lived life to the fullest. She spent many weeks caring for her grandchildren, enjoyed “road trips” with husband Steve, and even went skydiving! She adored her family and would do anything for them – even dressing up as a red power ranger to surprise her 5 year old grandson on his birthday! She was full of joy and generosity – always putting others before herself.

Nan was preceded in death by her father, Jack, her mother, Rosemary, and her sister, Louise Miller. She is survived by her husband, Steve, and two sons Jake Fry and wife Angie of Dallas, and Brett Fry and wife Tara of Dallas; grandchildren Pierce, Sully, Wells, Cooper, and Rosie Bea Fry. She is also survived by her sister Maria McBee and husband, Billy, of Dallas, and sisters-in-law, Lea Kingham of Tulsa, OK and Dee Holmes Pansze of Yukon, OK.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Blackwell and was previously a member of PEO, ABWA, board member of Blackwell Chamber of Commerce, and the Blackwell School Foundation. A private family memorial gathering will be arranged at a later date under the direction of Roberts and Son Funeral Home, Blackwell, OK.

Nan was truly remarkable and many considered her to be the sweetest person they had ever met. She will be dearly, dearly missed.
