Moses Lee Headman
September 1, 1961 – January 16, 2018
Moses Lee Headman of Ponca City has gone on from this world to receive his crown of righteousness. He passed at age 56 on Monday, January 15, 2018, in Oklahoma City.
Moses was born September 1, 1961, the son of Isaac and Patricia Collins Headman in Pawnee. His Ponca tribal name is Kixidabazi, meaning “He who does not fear to try anything.” Moses spent his youth on the “East Roads” of the “Ponca Rez” exploring the “East Timber” climbing trees, riding his horse, Paint, with his dog, Wolfy, at his side. He attended Ponca City Schools including old McKinley Elementary. Moses spent 24 years away from his home and family. Upon his return, he took his position as Uncle Moses and Grandpa Moses to all of his sisters’ children. Each of them had a special place in his heart.
Moses is survived by and missed by, one daughter, Macy Lynn Tanner, of Jay; three brothers, Kennis Headman and Timothy Morton of Oklahoma City, Arthur Cerre of Newkirk; two sisters, Barbara Terrell and husband David of Oklahoma City, Virginia Clements and husband Rolf of Ponca City. He is also survived by extended family including numerous aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and his beloved grandchildren and friends.
Moses was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; four sisters–Helen Headman, Tina Joy Headman, Marcena Headman and Kathleen Headman Taylor.
A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Ponca Indian Church of the Nazarene. Final services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ponca Indian Church of the Nazarene, presided by Pastor Louis Headman, assisted by Pastor C.W. Springwater. The traditional final meal will be held noon Saturday in the dining hall at the Ponca Tribal Affairs Building in the White Eagle. Casket bearers will be John Cook II, Curtis Rhodd, Derek Yahola, Waylon Rhodd, Benji Rhodd and Frances Rhodd. Honorary bearers will be grandsons Sam Cook, Kennis Rhodd, Maynard Taylor, Edward Rhodd II, J.C. Kent and Alex Kent, Funeral arrangemnts are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
