Milton Martin Miller

July 13, 1929 – April 30, 2019

“I want to know Christ – yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.” Philippians 3:10-11

Milton Martin Miller, age 89, of Ponca City, Oklahoma passed away April 30, 2019, in Ponca City, Oklahoma. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Albright United Methodist Church, 128 S. Palm, Ponca City, with Reverend Tracey Ivy officiating. Milton will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2019 at Mulvane Cemetery, Mulvane, Kansas.

Milton was born on July 13, 1929 in rural Okarche, Oklahoma to Mary Murbee (Martin) and DeWitt Talmage Miller. After high school, Milton attended Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa and Biblical Seminary in New York City, graduating with a master’s degree. Later in life he attended Wichita State University and the University of Kansas. On May 29, 1954, he married Lucille Eleanor Frenzke. Milton worked many years as a minister and teacher. After seminary he served churches in Oklahoma as part of the Oklahoma-Texas Conference of the Evangelical United Brethren Church. In Oklahoma he served the Big Cabin, Otterbein, Thomas and Blackwell churches. He then moved to Wichita where he as associate pastor of Hyde Park EUB church. He taught for awhile at Douglass High School in Douglass, Kansas. Returning to the ministry he became associate pastor for Mulvane United Methodist Church. He also served as pastor in the Kansas East Conference of the United Methodist Church serving Galesburg, Thayer, Girard, Farlington, Altamont and Mound Valley, Kansas. He retired in 1993, then served as the Minister of Visitation at Grace UMC in Wichita, Kansas.

Milton was an avid reader and enjoyed composing music, painting and traveling. His true passion was flower gardening. Milton loved the outdoors and the beauty of nature. He found great joy in the changing of seasons and will be remembered for pointing out the smallest wonders to his family and friends.

Survivors include: son, Timothy Miller of Parsons, Kansas; brother, David Miller and his wife Lynnita of Ponca City, Oklahoma; sister, Eda Mae McCune of Lenexa, Kansas; several nieces, nephews; great-nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were: his wife, Lucille Eleanor (Frenzke); parents; step-brothers, Ralph Royse and Verdin Royse.
