Mary Dolores Houser

November 13, 1933 – September 11, 2024

Mary Dolores Houser, long time resident of Newkirk, went to be with the Lord Wednesday evening, September 11, 2024.

She was born November 13, 1933 in Newkirk. She was one of 10 children born to Fred and Almeda Kirkendall. Mary attended Newkirk High School and later worked for the Newkirk Herald Journal.

Mary met and married the love of her life, J. Franklin Houser Jr. They married on October 11, 1962. Together, they loved to travel. They went on many trips with Frank’s brother, Charles, and his wife Billie Houser. Mary was very passionate about their genealogy and spent time looking for clues to her family history.

She belonged to the First United Methodist Church in Newkirk, where she attended until her health prevented it. Mary was always interested in the lives of her nieces and nephews. She always has a smile and she would help anyone who needed it. Mary had a good sense of humor and she would say something to make you laugh when least expected it!

Mary will be missed by her sisters, Erma Burke and Shirley Weaver, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; four brothers, Forest Kirkendall, Leroy Kirkendall, Fred Kirkendall, and Eugene Kirkendall; and three sisters Nelly Lind, Iva Heath, and Dorothy Myers,

Services will be held at 2pm Thursday, September 19, 2024 at the First United Methodist in Newkirk. Mark Southard will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601.

The family would like to thank her caregiver Sandy Douglas for all the love and care she selflessly gave over the years, Hospice of North Central Oklahoma for the compassion and care and Via Christi for their care.
