Mary Virginia Bachman of Blackwell, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2019, in Blackwell at the age of 94 years.
Mary Virginia Bachman was born on July 29, 1924, in Dallas, Texas. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Dovie (Lambert) Keney. She grew up in the Fort Worth area attending the Fort Worth Public Schools, graduating from Polytechnic High School in 1941. After high school, she worked for a couple of years before enrolling in Pepperdine College in Los Angeles, California. Later, she transferred to Abilene Christian College in Abilene, Texas, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1948. Upon completion of her education, she married Edwin Allen Bachman on June 6, 1948, in Fort Worth, Texas. They made their home near Deer Creek, Oklahoma, where she joined her husband in farming, and made a home for their growing family. An avid writer, she authored at least five published books. Mary and Edwin retired in 1989 from farming and moved in 1990 to Blackwell. On January 12, 1991, Edwin passed away and she continued to make her home in Blackwell. She later returned to Fort Worth for several years before moving to Wichita Falls. In 2018 she moved back to Blackwell to make her home. She was a member of the Blackwell Church of Christ. She enjoyed reading her Bible, writing books and spending time with her family.
Mary Bachman was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Ella Mae Roberts, Benny Jean Boldt and Nell Bradshaw; and two daughters, Shirley Jean Bachman and Debra Dee Jenks.
She is survived by one daughter, Anita Darlene Lackey and husband David of Wichita Falls, Texas; two sons, Donald Edwin Bachman and wife Cindy Louise of Deer Creek, Oklahoma, and David M. Bachman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at 1:30 p.m. at the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel, with Don Bachman officiating.
