November 26, 1931 – April 24, 2019
Marlin B. Young, 87, resident of Ponca City, went to be with The Lord on Wednesday, April 24, 2019. Throughout his life, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He delighted in spending time with his grandchildren.
Marlin was born November 26, 1931 to Charley and Juanita Young in Atlanta, Kansas. He attended schools in Atlanta, Kansas and Winfield, Kansas, graduating from Winfield High School in 1949. He then attended St. John’s College and Southwestern College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1953. Marlin went on to join the armed services, serving in the United States Army from June of 1953 to June of 1961 when he was honorably discharged. After his discharge from the army, he went to work for Conoco in the computer department, retiring in 1990 as an assistant director. For the next few years, he stayed busy helping his son, Steve, with his business.
He was married on October 12, 1957 to Doris Gutzman and they made their home in Ponca City.
He is survived by his children, Steve Young and his wife Shawn of Ponca City and Jenny Hart and her husband Vinnie of Westminster, Colorado, and his grandchildren, Jordan Dean of Coweta, Oklahoma, Taryn Young of Ponca City, Riley and Kyra Hart of Westminster, Colorado, Lara Patton-Cook of Ponca City, Dalton Cook of Ponca City, Travis Murphy of Ponca City, and Ryan Murphy of Ponca City.
A memorial ceremony will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 3, 2019 at The First Lutheran Church of Ponca City.
Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory in Ponca City.
