Marion Fredricks
(May 2, 1944 – January 23, 2016)
Marion Lee Fredricks, Jr., longtime Ponca City resident, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, January 23, 2016.
A funeral service, officiated by Rodney Harris, will be held at Northeast Baptist Church, 2200 North Pecan, Ponca City, OK at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 28, 2016. Casketbearers will Darin Behara, Kurte Peters, Todd Goldman, Mike Thomason, Dennis Fredrick Jr., and Aaron Wand. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.
Marion was born in Ponca City May 2, 1944, the son of the late Marion L. Fredricks, Sr and Irene June Hall. Marion attended William McKinley Elementary and Alexander Graham Bell Jr High Schools in Tulsa, OK. He graduated from Ponca City High School in 1962. He attended Northern Oklahoma College, Tonkawa, OK. He married the love of his life, Mary Julia Behara, June 6, 1964 at the Peter’s School House in the Osage.
They moved to McAlister and he was Produce Manager at Humpty Dumpty for two years. He entered the US Navy and served his Country during the Vietnam War from April of 1968 to March of 1970. He was assigned to the USS Carpenter DD285 for sea duty, stationed in Hawaii at Pearl Harbor Naval Base. He was Honorably Discharged as Stock Clerk 2nd Class. They had their son Brian Laile Fredricks, Sr. on January of 1970. They moved back to Ponca City. They had their favorite daughter Kerry Janel (Fredricks) Carter on July 30, 1971.
He began his career at Conoco as an Instrumentation Technician retiring after 35 years of service as an Instrumentation Craft Supervisor, in 2006. Marion and Mary were members of Longwood Baptist Church and recently Northeast Baptist Church. A few of his favorite hobbies were mowing, more mowing, fertilizing, watering and more mowing his yard and anyone else’s, and more mowing. He enjoyed antiquing, attending auctions, and garage sales. He enjoyed his garden. And he enjoyed helping others.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary, his children Brian Fredricks and wife Bethany; Kerry Carter and husband Ronnie both of Ponca City. His grandchildren that he loved so very much, Trevor Wayne Carter, Taryn Lee Carter, and Brian Laile Fredricks, Jr., all of Ponca City. His brother Dennis Fredricks and wife Geneva, of Roseville, California. His mother Dene Fredricks, of Ponca City. Two sisters: Rhonda and husband Gary Layman, and Brenda Fuller. Brother and sister-in-laws: Keith and Sue Behara, Opal and Jerry Grimley, Lois and Mel Thomason, Connie Liberton, Max and Roseanna Behara, and Claudia and Bob Rock. He is also survived by nieces and nephews; Dennis Fredricks Jr., Katherine and Scott Weaver, Darin and Shelli Behara, Wanda and Tim Stein, Malinda and Joe Farley, Julia and Toss Patterson, Jill and Michael Herrin, Debra and Aaron Wand, Mike Thomason, Tina and Jason Schuenemann, Eric and Erin Liberton, Arron Liberton, Travis Behara, Cory and Shannon Behara, Jason Behara, and Kyle Rock, Robyn and Todd Pollman.
Marion was preceded in death by his Father and Mother Marion and Irene Fredricks, Sr., Grandparents Robert O. and Elizabeth Fredricks, and George and Clara Hall. Father and Mother-in-law Bernard and Claudine Behara. A niece Jennifer O’Rourke.
