Obituary for Margaret Sloan

Margaret Ellen (Brock) Sloan went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday December 28, 2013, surrounded by her family.
She was born July 7, 1938 in Pawnee, Oklahoma, the youngest sibling of Louis William and Gladys Beulah (Thomas) Brock. She was a 1956 graduate of Ponca City High School and attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa.
Margaret married Frank Sloan of Ponca City on January 24, 1957 at Sunset Baptist church. The couple relocated to Orange County, California where their daughter, Monica was born. Margaret worked for the State Department of Social Services for several years.
After returning to Ponca City, in 1975, Frank and Margaret lived on an acreage east of town in Osage County, where they enjoyed their horses and their faithful dog “Lucky”. Frank passed away in October 1987. Margaret was employed by Conoco Inc. in the Cost and Investment Accounting Department for many years until her retirement. Margaret enjoyed golfing with family and friends, along with her many travels. She gave to the community in many ways. She was the Desk and Derrick club member of the year in 1996. She volunteered for the ARMS mentoring program for Northern Oklahoma youth services and for the office at The Poncan Theatre. She enjoyed her Hampton Heights Neighborhood watch, assisting Sunday school at Sunset Baptist, her card group and other local activities.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Monica and husband Bill Rava of Mission Viejo, California; one grandson, CPL Paul W. Rava, United States Army and wife Nicole Rava of Savannah, Georgia; two sisters, Norma Perkins of Big Springs, Texas; Danna and husband Jimmy Walker of Ponca City; brother Leon and wife Marty Brock of Tularosa, New Mexico; sister-in-law Kathryn Wilson of Twenty Nine Palms, California; brother-in-law Lyndal and wife Billie Sloan of Irvine, California; brother-in-law Carroll Sloan of Billings, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Karen Clark of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Geri Sloan of Ponca City, Oklahoma; brother-in-law Bill Berry of Yukon, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Kay Sloan of Tulsa, Oklahoma; along with numerous nieces, nephews, their families and many close friends.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband Frank Sloan, father Lewis Brock, mother Gladys Brock, sister Mable Ardell Berry, sister Leta Pumford, sister Wilma Jean Brock, brother Carl Brock, brother Leroy Brock, father-in-law Quincy Sloan, mother-in-law Belle Sloan and brother-in-law James Sloan.
The Rava, Sloan, and Brock families thank the community of church work, family and friends for the outpouring of love and support for Margaret throughout her life. Also a special thanks to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Baptist Church in Ponca City with Rev. Matthew Brown officiating. Casket bearers will be Paul Rava, Ted Haun, Jimmy Wayne Walker, MJ Nash, Chad Petrie, and Ted Perry. Honorary casket bearers are Bill Rava, Harold Pumford, Jim Walker Sr., Lyndal Sloan, Bill Berry, Mark Sloan, Wayne Pemberton, Matt Ellis, and Jared Smith. Margaret will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Frank, at Rest Haven-Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery north of Ponca City.
Services are under the direction of Trout Funeral Service in Ponca City.
In lieu of flowers, Margaret requested donations to Sunset Baptist church, 915 Greenwood, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601.
