Obituary for Louis Girardi

Louis Girardi – Veteran

December 23, 1933 – December 20, 2018

Louis “Louie” Girardi, age 84, life’s loan was paid in full on December 20, 2018 surrounded by his family. Louie was born on December 23, 1933 in Sterling, Colorado to his parents, Egidio “Happy” Benedict Girardi and Romilda “Roma” Girardi (Rizzolo). Louie was very proud of his Italian heritage as both of his parents immigrated from Italy. Louie was an accomplished Sterling High School athlete playing football, basketball and baseball. He played Legion baseball during the summer and was asked to participate in the New York Yankees try outs, which was interrupted by his military service. Louie served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was very proud of his military service and had a deep respect for all those who served their country. On January 4, 1958 he married Alberta Leach in Sterling, CO. On return from his military service, he started his 30 plus year banking career with Security State Bank which, after numerous name changes, is now known as Wells Fargo. He retired in 1985. Louie was an avid golfer and enjoyed his daily “gangsome” rounds and all the ribbing amongst the group. Gardening was his passion. He took great pride in his yard and shared vegetables and flowers with his neighbors and friends. He was also a 50 year member of the American Legion, Elks and VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Egidio “Bennie” Girardi.

Louie is survived by his wife, Alberta Girardi of Ponca City, OK, son, Louis “Mark” Girardi of Ponca City, OK, daughter, Tina Corelli of Greeley, CO, siblings, Virginia Cass of Akron, Colorado, Gloria Heeg of Kimball, NE, daughter in-law, Brenda Lee Girardi (Bellendir) of Ponca City, OK, grandchildren, Louis Benedict Girardi of Mustang, OK, Katie Girardi of Oklahoma City, OK, Elizabeth Conour of Sterling, CO, and Jessica Conour of Sterling, CO, and great-grandchildren, Peyton Sprague and Louis “Gavin” Girardi both of Mustang, OK.

A graveside ceremony for Louie will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling, Colorado. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, individuals please make a donation to your favorite veteran related charity. Cards of condolences may be sent to 6660 E. South Ave, Ponca City, OK 74604.
