Lonnis Britt (Abrams) Savage passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her children on February 11, 2022.
Lonnis Britt (Abrams) Savage was born on January 6, 1922, to Isaac Chester Abrams and Maud Lee (Britt) Abrams in Cleveland, Oklahoma.
She attended school in Cleveland, graduating in 1939 and was valedictorian of her class. She attended Oklahoma A&M college for three years, 1939-1942. She worked for Oklahoma Natural Gas in Tulsa following her education.
She married Jack Allen Savage on March 2, 1943, in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Shortly after getting married, Jack was drafted and went overseas. After his discharge they moved to Blackwell where they purchased the family farm from his mother, where Lonnis lived until her death.
Lonnis worked as secretary to the Blackwell Chamber of Commerce until her retirement in December of 1990. She enjoyed being superintendent of the Education Department at the Kay County Fair for many years. In addition to being a farm wife and mother, Lonnis enjoyed sewing, needlework, embroidery, and quilting. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell, where she taught Kindergarten for 23 years. She volunteered at the hospital for many years. She was a member of Eastern Star and Domestic Science Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; a daughter, Jean Ann; a granddaughter, Lisa; and a great-granddaughter, Alyssa.
She is survived by a sister, Mary Ann Thomas of Woodward, Oklahoma; children, Janice Lawhon of Blackwell, Oklahoma, James Savage and wife, Pam of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Carol Finley and husband, Doug of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Lois Buttress and husband, Bobby of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren, Sean Ackerson, Scott Ackerson, Catina D’Achille, Todd Lawhon, Tami Estep, Shanna Santiago, Jenna Smith, T.J. Finley, Stephanie Fielder, Michael Finley, Amanda Buxton, and Chelsea Taylor; she is also survived by 30 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Blackwell First United Methodist Church with Pastor Daniel Rickman officiating. Burial will follow in Blackwell Cemetery.
