Obituary for Loedda (Hicks) Fry

Loedda Birdie Fry, surrounded by her family, slipped into the arms of her loving Heavenly Father May 28, 2015 at the age of 84.
Loedda was born March 24, 1931 to Jake Bird and Ester DeLona Hicks in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She was the 9th child of 10 in her family, and received her education in Stillwater, Oklahoma. On March 13, 1948 she married the love of her life, Thomas Edward Fry. They were married for 38 years until his death on January 28, 1987. Loedda and Tom were blessed with two children, Janette Fry Whitaker and Thomas Duane Fry. When her children reached school age, Loedda went to work at the Ponca Nursing Home which was her true calling. She loved taking care of people. She worked on the Kay County Election Board for many years, and was also an active member of Harmony Baptist Church and the Lions Club Vision Support Group until her passing.
In January of 1974, Loedda and Tom added to their family when Dewey Whitaker married their daughter and It didn’t take long until they fell in love with him too. On April 29, 1987 she received her greatest blessing, her grandson Daniel Edward Whitaker. If you talked to her more than two minutes you knew how wonderful she thought he was. She loved bowling, fishing and camping with her family and friends. She loved to travel and went on many trips with her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. She enjoyed taking trips with her children, grandson and friends. She loved to go anywhere. If you mentioned going somewhere, she would be in the car wondering what took you so long to get ready. She loved hanging out by the pool with Mark and Gwen Dickson, which she thought of as her kids. She liked to hang out with the "Clique" when they went out to eat or visit a casino.She liked to start her day by having coffee every day with her friend Mary Lou Shorter. Her day ended with talking to her friend and neighbor Jack Horner. She liked going to Walmart with her friend Lila Kizer. She had many special friends that she loved dearly.
She is survived by her daughter; Janette Whitaker and son-in-law Dewey Whitaker of Ponca City, grandson; Daniel Whitaker and his girlfriend Ashley Kenny of Midwest City; as well as many friends and family.
She is preceded in death; by her husband Thomas Edward Fry, her son Thomas Duane Fry, her parents, and her brothers and sisters: Audrey Day Hubbard, Elmer Hicks, Bill Hicks, Nancy Edmondson, Jake Hicks and 4 infant siblings.
The funeral service will be held at the Harmony Baptist Church 2230 N. Union Ponca City, OK with Dr. D. R. Baker officiating at 1:00 PM. A family dinner will be held in her honor at noon at the church. Burial will then follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery 1206 S. Waverly in Ponca City.
Pallbearers will be: Kenny Ogrady, Sean Ogrady, David Parks, Lyman Gray, Adam Dickson, and Daniel Whitaker. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Horner and "The Clique".
