Lavena (LeGate) Toon longtime Ponca City resident, died Friday evening, March 110, 2017 at her home. She was 87.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Sunset Baptist Church with Pastor Matt Brown residing. Interment will follow at the Ponca City I.O.O.F. Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
Lavena was born on April 10, 1929 At Covington, Oklahoma the daughter of Beverly Samuel LeGate and Flora M. Farrar LeGate. She was united in marriage to Ben D. Toon on April 12, 1947 at Guthrie, OK where they made their first home. While they lived in Gurthire, both of their sons were born, Ben ”Darryl” and Richard Leon were born. They moved to Ponca City in 1966 where she went to work for Conoco as an accounting clerk. They continued to make Ponca City their home, where Ben worked for National Life and Accident Insurance Company for a number of years and after his retirement opened his own independent agency unit his death on March 20, 1984.
She was a very active member of the Sunset Baptist Church. She had served as a guide at the Marland Manson; was a member of the Desk and Derrick Club. She was a children’s Librarian at the Ponca City Library.
Her enjoyments were reading, crocheting, swimming and exercising at the Conoco Pool. But her most important enjoyment were her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ben; one son, Richard Leon Toon; 2 brothers Beverly and Everett.
Survivors include her son, Darryl Toon and his wife, Terri Garrity Toon; Granddaughter, Michele Coonce and husband, Johnny Coonce of Commerce City, Colorado; grandson, Jeremy Toon, his partner Lisa Norton and her daughter Jenna of Seneca, Missouri; Great Grand Daughter, Harley Jo Coonce; Great Grandsons Chase Coonce and Jason Coonce; Step Grand Daughter, Marlana Garrity and husband Russell Aburto, Waco, TX and Step Great Grandson Kobe, Brendan and Ty.
Casket bearers will be Jeremy Toon, Johnny Coonce, Chase Coonce, Jason Coonce, Drew Crisswell, and Jeremy Kimbrell.
