Obituary for Larry Kizziar

August 7, 1947 – June 28, 2017
Larry D. Kizziar, longtime Ponca City resident, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017 doing what he loved most, working on his farm. He was 69 years of age. Larry was born August 7, 1947 in Pawhuska, OK to Henry James and Ethel Mavis Moore Kizziar.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Eastern Heights Christian Church with Pastor Mark Berry and Pastor Danny Cox officiating. Burial was held at an earlier date in the Masham Cemetery under the care of Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City, OK.
Larry attended school in Fairfax and he was a proud 1965 graduate of the Fairfax Red Devils. Larry married his high school sweetheart, Dottie Culbertson, April 23, 1966 in the First Christian Church of Fairfax. In September of 1966, Larry answered the call from his country and entered the U.S. Air Force serving 4 years with a tour of duty in Thailand. Upon his honorable discharge, Larry and Dottie moved to Ponca City. Larry accepted a position with Rush Metals in Billings, OK. After the birth of their son, Douglas Hugh Kizziar, the family moved to Billings and he worked 26 years at Rush Metals. During the years the family lived in Billings, Larry served 20 years on the Billings Volunteer Fire Department and the Billings City Council.
Larry and family joined the Billings Christian Church, where they were members for 26 years. Later, Larry was also a member of the Masham Baptist Church until his retirement when he moved his membership to Eastern Heights Christian Church in Ponca City.
After leaving Rush Metals and moving to Ponca City, he worked for Air System Components for 15 years retiring in August of 2012. After retirement, Larry’s enjoyment of life went to a new level when he was able to spend more time working on the Kizziar farm in Pawnee County near Masham, OK raising Black Angus cattle.
Throughout his life, Larry also enjoyed bowling on numerous leagues with many friends. He was also an avid quail hunter and a loyal Oklahoma State University supporter.
He is survived by his wife, Dottie, of 51 years; one son, Douglas Kizziar and his wife Shari of Wichita, KS; one granddaughter, Ava; four sisters, Donnis Kizziar of Fairfax, OK, Doris Sissel and husband James, of Hays, KS, Loretta Clark and husband Lile, of Ponca City, OK, Joy Miller and husband Billy, of Neosho, MO; one brother, Garry Kizziar and wife Dorsey, of Colorado Springs, CO. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
