Larry Joe Brown

Larry Joe Brown of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Monday afternoon, September 4, 2017, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital at the age of 71 years.

Larry Joe Brown was born on April 3, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Joseph B. and Theola M. (Ridgeway) Brown. As a young boy he moved with his family to Kay County where he attended Ponca City, Braman and Medford Public Schools. He graduated from Medford High School in 1964. Following his education he worked as a brick mason in Kay and Grant Counties with his father. In 1968 he began working for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. He married Linda Kay Skaggs on June 20, 1969, in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and they settled in Blackwell where he continued working for the transportation department until his retirement in 2001. He then began working for Wal-Mart in Blackwell until 2009. He enjoyed engaging on social media and visiting with friends and neighbors. He was an avid train enthusiast.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Brown of Blackwell; a son, Larry Brown Jr. and wife Marissa of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Mildred Wright of Enid, Jennie Ray of Oklahoma City, and Dena Wagner and husband Steve of Trinidad, Colorado; two brothers, Earl Brown and wife Cheri of Brighton, Colorado, and Roger Brown and wife Mary of Englewood, Colorado; and a grandson, Larry Brown III of Oklahoma City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Florence Womack.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 12th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with Rev. Matt Smith of Immanuel Baptist Church officiating.
