Judy Ranae Barnett
December 12, 1944 – October 13, 2018
A much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, Mrs. Judy Ranae (Thompson) Barnett, 73, of Comfort, Texas, passed away peacefully after a complication from surgery with her family at her side. She was born on December 12, 1944 in Madison, Wisconsin to Marvin and Wilma Thompson. She married David Barnett on September 7, 1963 at Nardin Methodist Church in Nardin, Oklahoma.
Judy grew up in Blackwell, Oklahoma and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1963. She went to work for Conoco Oil in Ponca City as a Typist and later as a Proof Reading Supervisor in the Transcription Department. She and her husband moved to Lake Jackson, Texas in 1968 and she became an Executive Secretary for the Plant Manager at Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, Texas. After retirement, she and her husband moved to Lee’s Summit, Missouri for 8 years. Later, they drove their camper around the country before building their home and settling in Comfort, Texas.
Judy treasured her grandchildren dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. She loved to quilt and has earned several awards for her quilts. She relished traveling the world with her husband. However, her favorite spot was sitting on her back porch in the evenings, watching the wildlife.
Judy is survived by her husband of 55 years, David, of Comfort; her daughter, Janice, of Killeen, Texas; grandson, Cassidy Maino, and his fiancée, Whitten Cluff, of Ruther Glen, Virginia; granddaughters, Promise Newman, and her husband, Tyler, of Nashville, Tennessee; and Madison Petry, and her husband, Kaleb, of Killeen, Texas; her mother, Wilma Thompson, of Norman, Oklahoma; and brother, Jerald Thompson, and his wife, Sherri, of Moore, Oklahoma. Sisters-in-law: JoAnn Nave of Alvin, Texas; Judy Barnett of Blackwell, Oklahoma; and Linda Barnett of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Nephews: Wyatt Barnett, Eddie Barnett, and Rhett Thompson. Nieces: Cindy Simmons, Brenda Armstrong, Tancy Barnett, Lisa Barnett, Brenda Finn, Shelli Hibberd, and Amy Simpson. Judy is preceded in death by her father, Marvin Thompson.
Her body will lie in state in the Schaetter Funeral Home in Comfort from 9 to 11 A.M. on Wednesday, October 17th, with funeral services at 10:30 A.M. Thursday the 18th at Gaddis United Methodist Church in Comfort Texas, with the Rev. Carolyn McGuire officiating.
Graveside services and interment will follow in Blackwell, Oklahoma on Saturday, October 20th at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorials be given in her memory to the Gaddis Methodist Church Endowment Fund, PO Box 566, Comfort, Texas 78013.
