July 21, 1935 – December 21, 2024
Judith Hampton Million, born on July 21, 1935, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away December 21, 2024. She was the oldest daughter of JC and Terease Hampton, and sister of Joan Long, Mary Monford, and John Hampton. After attending Wellesley for one year, Judy transferred to the University of Oklahoma where she earned a BS in Elementary Education in 1957. During her time at OU, Judy was an active member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. After graduation from college, Judy returned to Ponca City, where she met Charles Million on a blind date. They were engaged three months after their first date and were married December 7, 1957. Judy and Charles had three children: Michael Million, Susan Million, and Jo Ellen McMonagle.
Judy and Charles spent most of their married life in Houston, Texas. However, they were fortunate to live in a variety of places, such as Long Beach, Bowie, Ventura, Denver, and Dubai. After Charles passed away in 1975, Judy began to pursue a career in finance. Once her youngest daughter, Jo Ellen, graduated from high school, Judy decided to move back to Ponca City in 1983 to live and be closer to her parents.
While Judy lived in Ponca City, she worked at Home National Bank as a trust officer. She eventually retired from the bank in 2005. She was also an active member at the First United Methodist Church and served as the finance chair for 10 years. In addition to her commitment to her church, Judy also was very active in the community. She was chairwoman of the Ponca City Concert Series for 3 years and served on the board for 20 years. She was also very active in the Oklahoma chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an active member since 1985. Judy was a member of the Ponca City Country Club since 1983. She also played in a variety of bridge groups and loved to travel. Judy’s travels consisted of biking through Thailand, hiking the Himalayans, and kayaking in Hawaii. In addition to her various trips, she also traveled around the world with the Johnathan Griffin choral group. Following in her family’s tradition, Judy spent every summer in Manitou Springs, Colorado, enjoying the log cabin that her Grandfather Hampton built in the 1930’s. She also enjoyed golfing and swimming at the Garden of the Gods Country Club in Colorado Springs. Judy was an optimist and lived her life to the fullest. She stressed the importance of independence and strength.
Judy is survived by her three children, Michael Million, Susan Million, and Jo Ellen Million McMonagle, and their spouses, Sheryl Million, Ralph Cohen, and Steve McMonagle. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Emily McMonagle Ramirez, Cori McMonagle, and Michaela Million, as well as her great grandson, Antonio Ramirez. Judy is also survived by her three step grandchildren, Wedge O’Malley, Marlene Cohen and Michael Cohen, and her step great grandchildren, Sydney O’Malley, Sam Rasmussen, Aaron Rasmussen, Drew Cohen, and Celeste (CeCe) Cohen. Judy is also survived by her two sisters, Joan Long, Mary Sue Monfort, cousins and numerous nieces and nephews and their spouses and children.
The Million family would like to thank the workers of Hospice of North Central Oklahoma for their guidance and friendship during the last few years of her life. Special thanks must be given to Judy’s dear friends Dee and Rod Kunz, Cindy Wigley, and Vicki Stokke, who helped and supported her throughout her life in Ponca City.
