JR was born on June 17, 1955 to Howard M. Anderson, Sr. and Peggy Hawkins Anderson in Blackwell, OK. He was raised in Blackwell, graduating from Blackwell High School in 1973. After high school, he began helping his father at the family service station in Shidler, starting him off on his lifelong career. On August 25, 1980, JR married the love of his life, Diana L. Taylor in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. They made their home in Shidler where he has been a congenial presence at the Texaco Station, he began running after his father’s passing. When not greeting customers and friends at the convenience store, JR enjoyed hunting for the big bucks or fishing for the large catfish in the wide open spaces of north central Oklahoma. He also had a passion for old cars, spearheading and overseeing the Shidler Chamber of Commerce Car Show for 14 years running; while showing many of his own fine examples of early 1970’s muscle cars. He was also an avid OU fan his entire life. Above all, JR was a kind, loving man, who cared deeply for his family, adoring his grandchildren and helping others in need. He will be dearly missed by his family and the Shidler community.
