John J.C. Rankin

March 23, 1929 – January 8, 2017

J. C. Rankin longtime Ponca City resident passed away peacefully January 8, 2017 in Ponca City, OK. He was 87 years of age. John was born March 23, 1929 in Ponca City, OK to Clarence Sherman and Lydia Thrower Rankin.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Grace Memorial Chapel with Rev. Stephen Heslip of First Baptist Church of McAllen, TX officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in the Osage. Pallbearers will be; Doug Tiffany, Mike Ross, Dennis Reaves, Ollie Blackstar, Mickey Keeler, Rick Ross. The family has requested memorial donations be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma 445 Fairview Ave. Ponca City, OK 74601. Arrangements are under the care of Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City.

J.C. lived most of his life in Ponca City. He met the love of his life Loretta Keeler in Newkirk, OK and they made their home in Ponca City, OK. J.C. worked for southwestern Bell as a Cable Splicer for over 25 years retiring in 1976. Prior to working for Southwestern Bell, he worked in Alaska for the railroad and then Midwest Creamery and he also owned and operated the Rankin Service Station for a time. J.C. also enjoyed hunting, Fishing, Gardening, Raising his animals and loving on his Cats and Dogs. He was also a member of the Osage Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors include: 3 sons; John L. Rankin and wife Linda of Billings, OK, Jimmy C. Rankin of Ellsworth, KS and Jimmy C.”Jamie” Rankin of Hotchens, OK 1 daughter; Martha Long and husband Doug of Ponca City, OK 1 sister; Beverly Reynolds of Pittsburg, KS 5 brothers; Jack Pearson of OKC, OK; Tommy Pearson, Lester Rankin, Frank Rankin all of California and Charles Rankin of S. Dakota. Also surviving are numerous Grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

J.C. was preceded in death by his parents, Wife; Loretta, 4 sisters; Donna White, Alma Miller, Mary Fox and Imogene Sherran; 1 brother; Ralph Rankin.
