John Maag
October 22, 1923 – August 16, 2020
John D. Maag, 96, of Tonkawa, left this life on August 16, 2020, at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City. A Graveside Ceremony, with Military Honors, will take place at the IOOF Cemetery, Tonkawa, at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 25, 2020, with Rev. Tom Howard officiating. Viewing will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday, August 24, 2020 at Trout Funeral Home in Tonkawa. Those unable to attend the graveside may attend virtually on the Trout Funeral Home website, www.troutfuneralhome.com. John was born October 22, 1923, in Ponca City, to Emil and Ida (Beyer) Maag. John grew up in the area and worked many jobs when he was younger. He delivered papers and worked as a caddy for the golf course. John later joined the Navy. On July 3, 1950, John and Violet Davis were married in Texarkana, AR. John went to work for Gruner & Company Machine Shop, which later became Smith Tools. He also owned JB Machines in California. John worked for Conoco also, and retired from Tinker.
He was a good wrestler and was a member of the PoHi wrestling team. John was also a member of the VFW, Disabled American Veterans and was a University of Oklahoma fan. He enjoyed many things in life, but family was most important.
John is survived by his children, Evelyn Hines of Redlands, CA, John Maag of Oklahoma City, Dorthy Lively of Ponca City; grandchildren, Jesse Lively, Derrek Collins, Jacob Lively, Damon Lively, Michael Maag, Crystal Himes, Wendy Himes; 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Violet Maag; sisters, Ruth Coat, Anne Weeks; brothers, Phillip Maag, Earl Maag and Emil Maag.
