Obituary for John Foell

John F. Foell, age 83, retired Sr. Information Specialist for Conoco, resident of Ponca City, OK, passed away April 7, 2014 , at his home.

A vigil will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A mass will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Kevin Ratterman officiating. Burial will then follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Ponca City, OK. Casketbearers will be Joshua Ballard, Nathan Foell, Tony Vu, Nguyen Vu, Preston Bellin and Zach Hoffhines.

John was born on October 1, 1930 to Charles F. Foell and Anna Elizabeth (Clifton) in Syracuse, NY. He graduated high school from Bayside, NY in 1949. Airplane piloting was a dream of his, so in 1951 he enlisted with the U.S. Air Force, serving until 1953. Following military service, he was married to Martha Cavender on August 8, 1953 in Durant, OK. A Bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma University was completed a few years thereafter. After graduating from college, he began working at Conoco in the Research and Development area for over 30 years, retiring in 1992. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and was fond of being able to spend more time with his family after retiring.

Survivors include his wife, Martha; brother: Charles C. Foell and wife Dorothy of Oneonta, NY; sister: Anne E. Foell of Bayside, NY; children: John Stephen Foell and wife Hien of Midwest City, OK; Theresa Hoffhines and husband Dean of Edmond, OK; Thomas Charles of the home; Nancy McSmith and husband James of Ponca City; Mary Karen Ballard and husband Derrin of Edmond, OK; grandchildren: Julie, Nathan, Nguyen, Zach, Joshua, Anna, Amy and Tony; Great Grandchildren: Preston, Jamy, Colson, and Nikolai and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Francis David Foell; and grandson, John Daniel Ballard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial Contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic School, 415 S. 7th St, Ponca City, OK 74601 or Image Hospice, 611 E. Hartford Ave., Ponca City, OK 74601. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
