Jimmie O. Butcher – Veteran
(August 8, 1936 – September 5, 2017)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jimmie O. Butcher. Jim was born August 8, 1936 in Blackwell, Oklahoma and passed away of natural causes September 5, 2017 in Lakewood, Washington, at the age of 81 years.
Jim attended school and graduated from Blackwell High School. He played Basketball, Football and was in the Maroon Singers. After graduating he joined the Navy where he served several years and married Barbara Welch. Following his service in the Navy, he worked at the Blackwell Zinc Smelter then Electron before joining his wife in retail business.
During retirement Jim volunteered at his church in Defiance, Missouri, completing most of the maintenance there, as well as the local food bank in Tacoma, Washington, where he coordinated the donation of food to ensure the bank was well stocked. He loved to garden and had an elaborate vegetable garden in Tacoma. He was a current member of the First Baptist Church of Lakewood.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Willa Mae Butcher as well as a brother Jack Butcher.
He is survived by two sisters, Sharon Parsons of Defiance, Missouri, and Carolee Adams of Ft. Worth, Texas; two children, Dana James of Lakewood, Washington, and James Butcher of University Place, Washington; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He will be missed by his family and friends who knew him well.
A graveside memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 20th in the Blackwell Cemetery.
